The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) joined the celebration of the International Museum Day (May 18th) through its 116 venues.
The National Council for Culture and Arts (Conaculta) and INAH carried out various educational and recreational activities in May, with the theme 'Museums in a changing world. New challenges, new inspirations'.
The international Museum Day will be held through four programs: Museums Night, Snap your museum, Museum on the shoulder and themed forums.
Museums Night will consist of tours guided by a historical character, astronomical observations, as well as the projection of audiovisuals. The event will take place on May 18th in the Gallery of history 'Museum del Caracol' in the National Museum of Cultures, and the House of Carranza and the National Museum of Viceroyalty.
Museum on the shoulder will give visitors a backpack or a 'didactic suitcase', containing a series of indications of activities, according to the heritage of each venue. In this activity will participate the National museums of Interventions and History 'Chapultepec Castle' as well as the House of Carranza, El Carmen, Culhuacan Community Centre and the Gallery of History; this will take place from May 15th to 20th.
Snap your Museum will enable visitors to take a picture with one of the pieces of the Museum, chosen by the INAH. The photos will enter a competition, in which each participant must portray themselves with objects of five different museums and upload them in the 'Sce Inah' Facebook, before June 30th. The first 100 people uploading their photos become creditor to a credential to attend all the openings of national and international exhibitions in museums of the INAH.
The forums offer thematic spaces for varied audiences. National museums that participate are the Museum of Cultures, History, Interventions, the Viceroyalty and the Museum del Caracol. They take place from May 16th to 22nd.
The international day of museums has its origin in the Museum Crusade, organized in 1951 by the United Nations Organization Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Museums Council.
